the lack of appreciation for animation that has become so apparent lately is awfully upsetting. in my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful art forms there is.
by taking pencil to paper, by creating joints and textures meticulously on a computer, by putting all your heart into a voice to give life to a drawing, by adding subtle sounds to a scene so it feels complete, you are creating a world where there was nothing before. it’s hard enough to make a film where the people and scenery already exist. it’s nothing short of stunning to make one where all the people, all the world around them, the sounds around them and the movements they make, are all created by human hands. you can craft things that could never happen in live action film, bring fantasies that only ever ran around in peoples minds before to life.
you can give a voice to people who might not have it, make a message in a way that only your mind can see it. everything can be tailored to the creative vision with enough effort and love. and it takes so much effort and so much love. animators, voice actors, riggers, designers, storyboarding, for some films even making sure every single expression there needs to be exists for a stop motion figure. all these people and more work tirelessly to bring these visions to life. it’s so much more than just “children’s things.”
it’s an art form, and i’d very much like to see this realized.
